Publix today started hiding the number of COVID appointment slots in Florida. The company’s Web site has replaced the number of vaccines available per county with an obfuscatory percentage counter that makes it impossible to tell how many vaccines are for the taking.
The Publix sign in site was up at 7:01, and most counties were out of vaccines about an hour or so later — particularly in the South of Florida, which tends to vote Democratic. The notable exceptions were Florida Panhandle counties, which continued to show over 80 per cent availability. The Florida Panhandle is a reliable Trump-voter heavy section of Florida, and is hundreds of miles away from the south of Florida, where much of the state lives.
Needless to say, I was, yet again, unable to secure a vaccine appt. Millions of Floridians have been unable to get vaccinated, except thru this tortuous, grifty, semi Lotto system that DeSantis has foisted on those who don’t have a moneyed in with concierge doctors.
I can only breathe a sigh of relief that Senate Dems are finally done pointlessly playing John Houseman in Paper Chase and can now focus on passing President Biden’s upcoming legislation ASAP.
Meanwhile, if you get the vaccine, who pays for it?
