Getting the house ready for Geneva

geneva german shep puppy

It was so exciting meeting Geneva yesterday for the first time.  She started giving my wife big wet kisses the moment Erin picked her up and cradled her like a little baby.

Being a little papoose will not last long, but we will enjoy it while it lasts!

In the meantime, there are a ton of things we have to do to get the house shep ready.  The breeder told us that shep puppy bones do not really solidify in place until the end of their first year.

Which means you want to avoid have them jumping off high places, such as leaping in the air to catch tennis balls, or climbing up and down steep stairs — like the ones that lead to the secret beach where I plan to be taking her a lot. (Luckily there is also a trail path down to the beach, so that solves that.)

What about clambering into our SUV or jumping up on and off the high bed in the master bedroom?

I mean I can train her to be lifted up and out, but once she gets big… oooh my aching back!

Erin thinks that we should get pet steps, like the ones from Hampton Bay.

Hmmm. they are a tad expensive, but apparently sturdy.  This is something I am going to have to investigate further. (Peeking at my soon-to-be-thinning wallet.)

No need for immediate action with this, but Geneva will be here Feb 1st, and will start to get big by the end of March-April.

I so wish I could spend time in the mountains of Sardinia this summer with Geneva and my wife.

What a life.

What an absolutely dream way to spend one’s time with a sheppie and get her hind quarters strong and in shape.

Hmmm… who knows… after all, Geneva will be getting an ISO chip, and the breeder says he takes his sheps traveling to Europe all the time, and even gave us a few tips on how to manage it.

Returning to live again for a sun-drenched summer by the Mediterranean would be like going back home for me.  Sometimes I miss that wine dark sea so much. I still dream about it, often.

Okay… back to reality.

What are we going to do about this ramp business?
